The OneDrive Conundrum Solved — Addendum, or:
I Repeat...
Confusion Continue To Say
Three days ago,
January 5, 2023, a Dispatch was posted that, at
least, explained what I have come to call: The OneDrive Conundrum.
In that posting, I explained that somewhere along the line, Microsoft
changed the Default Location to save files from C:\Users\USERNAME\FolderName
to
C:\Users\USERNAME\OneDrive\FolderName. I have
come to believe this was implemented with Windows 11 2022h2.
Nevertheless, the change is permanent, at least for now. The Prime
Directive to survive evolutionary times being Adapt or Die, the prior
posting detailed how to change the default Save To location back to C:\Users\USERNAME\FolderName.
When creating a new document, most of us will eventually Click Save As.
So, if your default location has been changed back to the old default
folder, then everything is copasetic. Sometimes, however, I will jot
something down in Word for use in a larger document. Then I simply
hit the Save Button on the Ribbon Toolbar. That snippet would be
given a filename something like Documents/Doc(123.456,789).docx. I
can find it later.
I do know people who do not save their documents without any kind of
logic or forethought. These people are, however, still using
Windows 10. So maybe this won't impact them now. But someday...
Microsoft did hint at all this is the KB:
What Administrators need to know about the new Save experience
in Office. MS did not state clearly, however, that
this CHANGE TO THE SYSTEM DEFAULT OVERRIDES THE OPTIONS SETTING
IN OFFICE. Maybe I should have taken a Reading
Comprehension Course while working on my Masters.
Now, let's all take a deep breath, and repeat after me.
